THE EDUCATION EDIT

Why Consistency Revision (Not Cramming) is the Secret to A-Level Psychology Success

We’ve all been there: staring at a 16-mark essay plan at 11:00 PM the night before a mock exam, trying to force the entire Biopsychology module into our brains.

It feels productive in the moment, but here’s the cold, scientific truth: cramming doesn't work for Psychology. Because this subject relies so heavily on AO3 (Evaluation) and Synoptic Links, you can’t just memorise facts; you have to understand how they connect. To do that, you need consistency.

The "Ebbinghaus" Problem: Why We Forget

In Psychology, we actually study the reason why consistent revision is vital. Ebbinghaus’ Forgetting Curve shows that within 24 hours of learning something, we forget up to 70% of it unless we actively review it.

If you only revise a topic once, by the time the summer exams roll around, that knowledge is gone. Consistent, "spaced" revision interrupts this curve, moving information from your short-term memory into your long-term storage.

How to Build Consistency Without Burnout

Consistency doesn’t mean revising for six hours every day. It means doing "little and often."

  • The 20-Minute Rule: Spend 20 minutes a day on one specific sub-topic (e.g., Caregiver-infant interactions).

  • Active Recall: Don’t just read your notes. Cover them up and try to sketch out the PEEL structure for an evaluation point.

  • Interleaving: Don't spend a whole week on Memory. Mix it up—do 30 minutes of Memory and 30 minutes of Attachment. This forces your brain to "switch gears," which is exactly what you'll have to do in the actual exam.

Join My Free 11-Week Revision Programme

I know that "being consistent" is easier said than done when you have multiple A-Levels to manage. That’s why I created a structured, easy-to-follow 11-Week Revision Programme—and it’s completely free.

The programme officially starts on the 23rd of February.

Each week, we tackle a different section of the AQA specification, breaking down the "content mountain" into manageable, bitesize chunks.

Missed the start date?
Don't worry! If you join after the 23rd of February, you will receive all the catch-up content and previous weeks' resources immediately, so you can jump right in whenever you're ready.
